In advance of the upcoming general conference leadership session (April 2, 2026), the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced upcoming adjustments to the Sunday class meeting schedule to support members in their efforts to be lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ. The adjustments will strengthen gospel learning in homes and congregations throughout the world. See the official letter from the First Presidency.
Beginning September 6, 2026, the alternating weekly schedule for Sunday School and quorum or class meetings will be replaced. Under the updated schedule:
- Sunday School, Relief Society, elders quorum, Young Women and Aaronic Priesthood quorum meetings will be held each week.
- Sacrament meeting will continue to be 60 minutes, followed by brief transition periods.
- Sunday School and quorum and class meetings will each be 25 minutes.
- Primary will continue every Sunday and will be 55 minutes, held while adults and youth attend their respective classes.
- Where local circumstances necessitate, units may begin with Primary and quorum and class meetings and conclude with sacrament meeting.

What are members of the church saying in reaction to these changes? Check out a sampling here.
Does the new Sunday class schedule mean the hallway bell is coming back?

With only 25 minutes for a lesson I’m hoping we don’t have to reference podcasts now and can stick to the doctrine!! 😂 pic.twitter.com/Abf8sJMKSV

If President Monson can powerfully give his last 6 sermons each in under 5 minutes.
We can teach a 25 min lesson.Cut the fluff, get to the meat and potatoes, and strictly teach by the Spirit. pic.twitter.com/bZgIb8dIcw

To the people complaining about this:
What part about “Home centered, Church supported” are you not getting? https://t.co/TRTRZNDWm4 pic.twitter.com/p8Zl0uPpr4

Hot take: the Church looked at the same two-hour block and chose more doctrine, more fellowship, and more structure for youth. That tells you exactly what it thinks this moment requires.

Do we believe a prophet(s) leads the church?
Instead of finding (and spreading) reasons why this won’t work, we can focus on learning the Lord’s reasons for this change (through humbling ourselves as needed) and lean all-in to cheerfully and faithfully support it, encouraging… https://t.co/pznqWc0xIP

I think the most exciting part about this change is learning to be more efficient in how we use our time at church.
• Socializing before/after church, not between meetings
• Better use of e-mail etc. for non-meeting related business.
• Using class time for lessons, not… https://t.co/pJN1ePXdci— JD Reyes 🪔 (@Orthographix) March 31, 2026
This is crazy!
Thoughts?
I trust in the brethren!
I hope this goes well but I’m a bit skeptical. Trying to be more faithful 😅https://t.co/FsBBVBAXzG— Jordan Brimley (@jmbrim3) March 31, 2026
I see a lot of people already convinced this is going to be a terrible schedule.
Just give it time people. We’ve tried out alternating weeks for a few years, and our leadership felt it wasn’t optimal.
If this doesn’t end up being optimal, they’ll adjust again. Just calm down. https://t.co/PMDwYBGKFP

That Sunday school teacher who loves to go into deep complicated doctrine during their lessons is pulling their hair right now

I like this change as it means I’ll have to hear less people talk about podcasts, but also it encourages regular socialization with both the opposite sex and the quorum on a weekly basis in YSAs https://t.co/GeGzI9yhM5

Good. Hopefully this will eliminate non-scripturally based, non-doctrinally based lessons in Sunday school. https://t.co/jrdRMaxQOY

No more trying to remember if it’s a Sunday school week or an elder’s Quorum week.
No more lamenting having to cover 2 weeks of material in a single lesson.
Also, if you don’t get started right on time, no lesson at all, lol.https://t.co/Pi1XQjrn28

What a blessing to be lead by living prophets and apostles who hear the Lord’s voice and point us to Jesus Christ. May we all sustain them in our words and actions and make the best of these changes to become better prepared to receive the Lord when He comes.

In our military days, in a non-Christian country, all we had was two hours in the base chapel. The only difference between what we could do and what the Brethren are implementing is that our SacMtg was 45 minutes long. It worked. We used to joke that The Church was truer in that country than the rest of the world.
This will work.
