Church Humanitarian Aid in the Middle East Conflict

Church Humanitarian Aid in the Middle East Conflict

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the following statement on Monday, November 6, 2023.

In line with its stated aim to provide humanitarian assistance around the world, including areas of conflict, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is collaborating with multiple international relief agencies in Gaza and Israel. The Church is devoting significant financial resources for critical medical and mental health care, among other needs, to help alleviate suffering wherever it is found.

The above statement comes less than a month after they issued a statement on the recent violence in the middle east. That October 12th update said:

We are devastated by the recent eruption of violence and loss of life in the Middle East. Violence of this nature is abhorrent to us and is not in harmony with the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is a gospel of peace. At such times, our hearts ache for all victims of this atrocity.

As servants of God, we affirm that He calls upon all of us to love our neighbors as ourselves, and we pray for a peaceful resolution of all conflicts.

President Nelson’s talk, Peacemakers Needed, is even more poignant given the rising conflicts across the globe.

Contention drives away the Spirit—every time. Contention reinforces the false notion that confrontation is the way to resolve differences; but it never is. Contention is a choice. Peacemaking is a choice. You have your agency to choose contention or reconciliation. I urge you to choose to be a peacemaker, now and always.

May we seek and publish peace.

You can't negotiate with terrorists determined to kill you and exterminate you. Joseph Smith admitted similar when under extermination order. Every bit of aid we give to Gaza supposed civilians fuels their ability to kill Israelis. Please stop pretending we don't know who the aggressor is here. Helping Gaza helps people (yes even civilians) who elected Hamas. This is not their "native" land. They are leftovers from Egyptian occupation and a few other dynasties in the past. Notice none of the Arab states will take them in. They are tools of Iran which is our bitter enemy. Helping Gaza in any way harms the United States. No one would have advocated helping Japan after Pearl Harbor. Analogy is cogent!

@Ingrid Fuhriman, 2 Nephi 26:33 "For none of these iniquities come of the Lord; for he doeth that which is good among the children of men; and he doeth nothing save it be plain unto the children of men; and he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile."

@Ingrid Fuhriman, That would mean America is not my native land. My ancestors have only been here since about 1670. They came in waves during the 1600s, 1700s, 1800s, and even the 1900s, searching for a place to be safe from poverty and persecution. A place to practice their own religion, to own and work their own land. The native Americans weren't exactly willing to "take us in" as we came to take over their lands. Shall we leave?

Scriptures tell us no one knows when He will come. We don't need to know when, just that He will come. Stay prepared as it is also unknown when we will depart, for most of us, so we should be ready at any time.

A FURTHER EXPLANATION OF THIS "PEACEMAKER POLICY" WOULD SEEM TO WARRANT A REFERENCE TO GENERAL MORONI VIS A VI THE LAMANITES IN THE BOOK OF MORMON. OR THE DIFFICULT DECISIONS MADE BY MORMON HIMSELF IN LEADING HIS UNRIGHTEOUS "BROTHEREN" IN THE FINAL WAR BETWEEN THE (BOTH UNRIGHTEOUS NEPHITES AND UNRIGHTEOUS LAMANITES) IN 420 AD. JUST SUEING FOR PEACE WHEN CONFRONTED BY A GENOCIDAL ENEMY WOULD SEEM TO BE A ROAD TO RACIAL SUICIDE/GENOCIDE.

@CARTER WENDT, Matthew 5:9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God." The Lord does not view violence with any degree of acceptance. He has commanded his disciples to be peacemakers, and He still commands us to do the same.
