Celebrating An End To The Teenage Years With a Temple Visit

Celebrating An End To The Teenage Years With a Temple Visit
Editor’s note: Many are familiar with my daughter, Sara Arkell, also known as The Piano Gal. Sara has been called to serve in the New York Syracuse Mission. This is a series on her weekly letters that we will be posting on the site for those who wish to follow along with her mission. You can read her previous emails here.
We got to go to the temple!!! My heart is SO FULL! Wow. It has been almost a whole year since I’ve been to the temple so it was long overdue. I have such a strong testimony of the work that goes on inside of temples and the peace that you feel when you attend. The way I feel inside the house of the Lord is unlike anything else. Make an effort to go to the temple!! You need to be there!

This week went by very fast for me honestly! I turned 20!! I’m no longer a teenager! My birthday was definitely different but it was still a good day. Sister Dean’s mom delivered breakfast to us, we had some great lessons, took some fun pictures, a member made my whole entire day by making my favorite homemade meal that I usually have on my birthday at home (thanks to the best mom ever for pulling that off), had delicious chocolate waffles for dessert, opened up a fun package from my family, and got so many birthday wishes from people I absolutely love!

We also had a BIRTHDAY MIRACLE!! In the morning, I prayed that we would be able to find new friends to teach as a birthday present. We didn’t have a ton of time to go finding but we did have a lesson with a member at 7 PM and two of his daughter’s friends happened to be there, Kenny & Dawson. They joined in on the lesson & were very interested!! We’re going back over tonight! That made me so happy!! God is so good!

Wednesday night we drove down to Syracuse and spent the night at the mission home. It was a special moment to spend time with President and Sister Gentry, just the 3 of us. They are amazing!! I look up to them so much! Then on Thursday we said goodbye to Sister Dean. Gosh I love her so much. God truly blessed with me one of my very best friends. I’m grateful I got to be companions with her at the very end. What a treat that was! It was so sad to say goodbye! But I’ll see her soon and now I get to talk to her every Monday!

We had so many amazing lessons this week!! We are starting to have friends who are actually progressing and it’s a great feeling! Two friends came to church on Sunday! One walked in with the biggest smile on her face. It was so precious! She absolutely loved it and she already has a ride set up to come again next week!

I made an effort to journal every single time I felt the Spirit this week and man there were quite a few! I’ve felt more in tune as I’ve been trying really hard to recognize it. Last night we had a lesson with our dear friend, Crystal, and it was one of the moments where I sat there completely in awe of the gospel. We were teaching her about the plan of salvation and where we came from before this life. She was so amazed and told us it was like a missing piece to the puzzle. I started crying sitting there just overcome with the Spirit & so grateful for my mission!! It’s moments like these that keep me going! I KNOW THIS GOSPEL IS TRUE. I LOVE IT.

Have the best week ever!! Thanks for all the support lovely family and friends!
