9 Life-Changing Months As A Missionary

9 Life-Changing Months As A Missionary
Editor’s note: Many are familiar with my daughter, Sara Arkell, also known as The Piano Gal. Sara has been called to serve in the New York Syracuse Mission. This is a series on her weekly letters that we will be posting on the site for those who wish to follow along with her mission. You can read her previous emails here.
Today marks 9 MONTHS as a missionary! Wow wow wow!  I have learned so much these last 9 months. It has been the most amazing growing experience I’ve ever had! So so thankful God led me here.

This week was fun! We got some crazy news that Instagram is no longer available for missionaries to use. This threw a huge wrench in our plans, especially with our amazing mission page we had! But I trust in God and know that if this is something He wants, then that’s the way it needs to be so you’ll have to reach out over Facebook now & follow along my journey more there!

I went on exchanges with Sister Rowley this week!! Always such a good time! It’s like a family reunion  I’ve loved going on exchanges with different Sisters & getting to know them more!!

We had a miracle this week!! We were in a town called Camden at a restaurant named Avicolli’s. (Most delicious pizza & garlic knots ever ) Sis Thompson went to the bathroom so I was sitting at our table by myself & a girl comes up to me and asks if I’m a Sister Missionary! Of course I joyfully said yes and she said she was a member of the Church!

She had moved to this small town a few months ago and had been trying to find a church building in the area but the address she had kept taking her to the wrong place. Well we gave the right address and our phone number so now she’s able to come to church!! I thought that was so cool because God put us right in her path! We hardly ever go to that restaurant! So so cool!

Sister Thompson and I spent last P-day painting the covers of our copies of The Book of Mormon! They turned out so cute!!! As I was painting it, I was thinking of the fact that scriptures are so PERSONAL. We are encouraged to apply the scriptures into our own personal lives! It is SO IMPORTANT to do that. I love The Book of Mormon!! Studying it is one of my favorite things and I learn so much when I read!

TRANSFER NEWS -> I’m staying in Rome!! Sis Thompson is leaving though  It’s honestly going to be so hard, it feels like a breakup! (So they tell me) But I’m so grateful for the 3 transfers we’ve had together! Definitely gonna be lifelong friends that’s for sure. She is going to an ASL area, though, which she is so excited for! My new companion will be Sister Aston! Transfers are on Wednesday and I’m so excited to meet her!!

What an Awesome! missionary. I love these letters, they're great and thank you for sharing. One thing I noticed is that her paint color was yellow. I remember the yellow dress story when she first went out. You know it's one thing to receive tender mercies and blessings but few of us recognize "chance meetings" as the blessings they are. Sister Arkell does recognize the source. That member that recognized her as a missionary at the restaurant was probably praying for help finding the church. Sara was the answer to her prayer. How cool is that?
