Shawna Edwards, one of the most talented Latter-day Saint songwriters around, has released another powerful song that testifies of the blessings of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Shawna shared some intimate details of how this song came to be on her Instagram account. She said:
I wish I could share this song with the whole world – it’s a message we so need right now. But I can at least share it with you – and that’s a good start. I also want to share a little bit about the song.
The blessings of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ are everywhere — light, hope, joy, peace, a covenant relationship with God, and the blessings of eternal families. And my heart is so full.
A little bit about the song: back in the middle of December, I had the idea for this song. And I wrote my first draft. I played it for my husband, John, and he said (this is a quote): You can do better. Raise your sights a little on this one.
And so I went back to the drawing board. Well actually, I went to my knees and asked my Father in Heaven to guide me. And He did.
Once the song was written, I decided to do something I’ve never done before. I set out to find the best group of local vocalists (of all ages) that I could find. I put a notice on social media that I needed singers.
I got about 70 videos from people. They were all so good – and it was hard to choose – but I ended up with such a great group of singers and I couldn’t believe that they all agreed to be part of it!
I also did another thing I’ve never done. I’ve never put myself in one of my videos. Never. But my daughter, Rebecca has been asking me to do that for a long time now. And this was the one. So I’m at the piano.
Finally, I just want to thank John. The song is what it is because he asked me to lift my sights. Isn’t that like life? We can all lift our sights to see the hope and joy that Jesus gives us every day. Every minute. We can reach out to others and share our faith in Him. And we can call down miracles from heaven to help us do it.
