The Book of Mormon Like You’ve NEVER Seen it Before

Jared Miller recently invited 1,000 people to read the Book of Mormon. Almost 95% of those not interested in reading the book rejected it because they thought it would be boring or wouldn’t provide any value.

Then, he invited 200 nonmembers to view contemporary images depicting specific passages in the Book of Mormon. Suddenly, interest in the Book of Mormon increased 497%, with 7 out of 10 wanting to find out about the stories behind the images. More than 4 out of 10 actually start reading the book.

Thus was born the Book of Helaman project. The Book of Helaman: Part 1 will be a thick, oversized art book with over 120 pages of beautiful images combined with the highest quality print, paper, and binding. For those familiar with the Book of Helaman, this art book, Part 1, will follow the story through the first 12 chapters of the Book of Helaman, and stop right before Samuel the Lamanite enters the storyline.

Jared’s longterm vision is not to simply create one part of the story but to visually chronicle the complete story of the Book of Mormon, building a set of art books that attract people to read its message of love and redemption.

Jared just launched a Kickstarter to finish creating the Book of Helaman – Part 1, combining the original text with over 120 pages of beautiful artwork. He’s self-funded for the past year-and-a-half but unfortunately can’t sustain that any longer. He needs additional funding to complete the project and Kickstarter is a perfect solution. (UPDATE: Good news, the project funded! You can still contribute and receive your rewards too) (Scroll through the gallery below to see some of the artwork.)

I believe that this project can help others want to read the Book of Mormon. Pres. Benson said, “I have a vision, of artists putting into… paintings great themes and great characters from the Book of Mormon…. Indeed, I have a vision of flooding the earth with the Book of Mormon.” That’s exactly what this project is trying to do.

More About Jared Miller

Hi, my name is Jared Miller, while reading the Book of Helaman I fell in love with its words. In the past, as a creative director, I led teams of artists to win both national and international ad awards.

As a business scholar, my work has been covered by outlets like the Huffington Post and the Harvard Business Review, and I’ve been invited to present at world-class institutions like The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Cornell University. Unfortunately, none of this buys much credibility with any of my 6 kids, however, I can make a pretty good paper airplane which among 5 sons and a daughter gets surprisingly good mileage.

But as I read the Book of Helaman, I was moved by its message and wanted to bring its pages to life. So with the support of an amazing wife, we dove head-first, full-time into this venture. As we’ve embarked on this project, we’ve had some amazing experiences that allowed us to push this project forward including—real-life adventures like moving our young family of 8 halfway around the world to live in Siem Reap, Cambodia.  We’ve worked hard to build a team of artists that can create imagery that does justice to the text—images that spark the imagination and create new insight.

Now in the final push, we need your help to see this project across the finish line. With your support, these images will be transformed into a world-class art book with a message that inspires love and redemption.

The Vision

The Book of Helaman: Part 1 begins in the middle of a much larger story, and comes from a book that is the 7th best-seller of all time with over 200 million copies in circulation. A book that The Library of Congress recently named the 4th most influential book in America. A book so valuable that the printer’s manuscript recently sold for $35 million. This book is the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

Our longterm vision is not to simply create one part of the story but to visually chronicle the complete story, building a set of art books that attract people to read its message of love and redemption. We want to build a set of books that people are excited to share with their friends and family, that help both young and old see the world in a new and brighter way.

The Campaign

The Book of Helaman: Part 1 will be a thick, oversized art book with over 120 pages of beautiful images combined with the highest quality print, paper, and binding. For those familiar with the Book of Helaman, this art book, Part 1, will follow the story through the first 12 chapters of the Book of Helaman, and stop right before Samuel the Lamanite enters the storyline.

There will be three versions of the book – the digital edition, the standard edition (which includes the digital edition as well), and the limited edition (which also includes the digital edition).

The limited-edition is exclusive with a beautifully embossed cloth cover that is unique to this Kickstarter and will never be printed again.

INSIDE THE BOOK: While the text will be taken from the original translation of the Book of Helaman, additional commentary and insights into the images will also be included. The artbook will not only include final finished work but sketches and concepts revealing the whole artistic process.

THE ART PRINTS: Through this Kickstarter, you can get also get exclusive art prints from the book itself. At the Art Collector level, you get a 30 in x 20 in canvas print of Samuel’s Climb, signed by the artist.

Additionally, we have the five ART COLLECTOR reward levels, limited to three backers each, these include a unique print of an illustration from The Book of Helaman Part 1 & 2.
