Each Christmas, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints celebrates the life of Jesus Christ through the #LightTheWorld initiative. The popular #LightTheWorld initiative asks people to help others in a new way each week.
Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, spent much of His ministry caring for individuals, one by one. Join us this Christmas as we follow His example and find ways to share our time, love, and resources with those in need.
#LightTheWorld 2018
As part of the #LightTheWorld initiative, people will have the chance to provide an instant act of service at special vending machines called Giving Machines.
Each Giving Machine will offer much-needed items for purchase from a variety of local and global charity partners. All donations will be accounted for by the vending machines, with the exact amount purchased going to each charity.
These machines allow people to make a donation by purchasing items including winter boots and holiday meals, baby supplies, “school in a box”, and goats or chickens for needy local families and those in need around the world.
100 percent of your donation will be used for the purchased item or for similar items or services of greater need as determined by the applicable charitable organization. Administrative costs for this initiative and costs associated with its nonprofit partners are covered by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In 2017, the #LightTheWorld Giving Machines raised more than $550,000 for local and global charities.
Giving Machines are located in New York, Arizona, Utah, the Philippines and Great Britain.
The Giving Machines will be displayed in 5 locations across the globe:
Joseph Smith Memorial Building – Salt Lake City, Utah – (This machine opens November 28th and we will be livestreaming the event to unveil all the items in the vending machine)
Downtown Gilbert – Gilbert, Arizona
Manhattan Temple – New York City, New York
Hyde Park Chapel – London, UK
SM Megamall – Manilla, Philippines
The giving machine in the Philippines opened up this past week and was an exciting day for all involved.

When you buy a goat or whatever, I don't actually get a goat or chicken do I? Does it send a goat or chicken in my name? I just don't understand how this works. Do I have to go get an animal to send? Please explain or let the explanation be more clear. Just what is the need for my area in Mesa, AZ? Thanks for the help.

This same situation occurs all over the world. Dispelling myths about the book of Mormon has been the most difficult case to people who choose later not to even read it, when givin' the challenge to see for themselves. I think it is the fear Satan places in there minds about loss of pride and what they had always previously believed. Whould this mean if they read and believe, ehat in there life would they have to change? When it does testify them truth about Christ and his love for us, the restoration, and his expectations of us to continue his work. I get it . It is a tall order. But choosing to not read doesn't change what he expects from us. He put it on earth to help us. I love in 2nd Nephi where it says: No ye not I have created all men, And that I remember those that are upon the isles of the sea; I rule the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men,yea, even upon all nations of the earth? Wherefore murmur ye,because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know he not because of the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also. And I do this that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; And I speak my words forth for mine own pleasure. And because I have spoke one word,ye need not suppose I cannot speak another; for my work is not yet finnished; neither shall it be until the end of man,niether from that time henceforth and forever.
