A List of The Best Latter-day Saint Movies

The Fighting Preacher

The Fighting Preacher is a 2019 drama film written and directed by T. C. Christensen and starring David McConnell and Kenna Dawn. The film focuses on Willard Bean and his wife, Rebecca, who are in involved in a 25-year missionary service in Palmyra, New York. Witnesses

David Whitmer, Oliver Cowdery and Martin Harris face ridicule and persecution when they claim to have seen angels and hefted golden plates containing ancient inscriptions.

WITNESSES is the most significant and ambitious film dealing with the early history of the Church and the translation of the Book of Mormon to ever be released on the big screen,” stated Brandon Purdie, president and founder of Purdie Distribution. Purdie Distribution is managing the nationwide theatrical release of the ground-breaking film.

“While many people know some of the Three Witnesses’ story, we created the film with the goal of reaching a broader and younger audience to share this incredible story of faith,” stated Russell Richins, the film’s producer. Witnesses is available with a free Living Scriptures trial.

Love, Kennedy

Kennedy Hansen is funny, loving, and seems to be a typical child—until she inexplicably begins to fall. It takes years for a diagnosis…juvenile Batten disease, an extremely rare, terrible, and terminal prognosis. There is no cure for Batten disease and after living only sixteen years, Kennedy leaves behind a great legacy of love and friendship. But her story doesn’t end at her death—in fact, that’s when the miracles really begin.

Our family watched this recently, and I’ll have to admit, I was skeptical at first. But when I saw all of my children bawling at the end and we could all feel something together as a family, I was really glad my wife bought the movie. Love, Kennedy is available with a free Living Scriptures trial.

The Last Descent

The details of the passing of John Jones in Nutty Putty Cave have been well documented, but his story did not end there. Witness the power of love, family, and the Plan of Salvation in this critically acclaimed film that shows that family bonds extend beyond this life.

I’ll be honest, this one was difficult to watch for me because I’m claustrophobic – I actually had to turn it off at one point because I was legitimately hyperventilating. If you like spelunking, this will be your type of movie. The Last Descent is available for purchase on Amazon.

17 Miracles

As part of the Willie Handcart Company, Levi Savage (Jasen Wade) feared that leaving late in the season would lead to despair and death. What he learned was that for every tragedy, there was a multitude of miracles. Brought to you by filmmaker T. C. Christensen (Praise to the Man; The Work and the Glory), 17 Miracles will open your eyes to the unbelievable but true stories of the Mormon pioneers as you have never seen them before.

This is one of my favorites. Seeing the miracles all along the way for the pioneers in the Willie Handcart Company is a faith-building experience and a great way for your children to connect with these stories of the past and remember them when they have their times of need. 17 Miracles is available with a free Living Scriptures trial.

Just Let Go

On a cold night in 2007, a devoted father of four and a seventeen-year-old drunk driver both received life sentences. In one violent, devastating instant, each face a drastically different future. But as Chris Williams sat in a demolished vehicle, realizing that his wife, unborn baby, nine-year-old daughter, and eleven-year-old son had just been killed, he committed to do something extraordinary: he would forgive.

This story is incredible. This family is even more incredible. Chris’ son served in the same mission my mother did, and they were close friends. Such an incredible movie, though I feel that their family is even more remarkable than this movie portrays. Just Let Go is available with a free Living Scriptures trial.

Ephraim’s Rescue

From T. C. Christensen, director of the sensational pioneer form 17 Miracles, comes the heroic true story of a simple man who was called to do the work of angels. Ephraim’s Rescue relates the story of Ephraim Hanks: a rescuer of the Martin Handcart company.

Follow Ephraim as his adventures lead him to join the Mormon Church and to ultimately lead one of the most heroic rescues in American History. With a unique desire to help and strengthen others, Ephraim learns that each choice we make can prepare us for what lies ahead. He discovers, through it all, that decisions determine destiny. Singing With Angels

Really a great movie. Beautiful music. I’ve never been much of a ‘choir music’ fan, I have tended to lean toward contemporary Christian music. Having said that… I believe I am now a new fan of ‘choir music’! Especially the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

I am a Christian, so I really liked the fact that this movie is a great movie, period. It left a great impression on our household. P. S. I LOVE “a Child’s Prayer”. I had never heard that song before but after listening to it on the movie, I cannot stop playing it. – Amazon Review. Available for rent or purchase on Amazon.

Baptists at Our Barbecue

From Robert Farrell Smith’s best-selling novel comes a hilarious romantic comedy about a town where everybody’s nuts…about religion! Tartan (Dan Merkley) is 29, single and Mormon. Tired of being set up by his marriage-conscious mother, Tartan takes a job as a forest ranger in Longfellow, a sleepy town where half the population is LDS, the other half is Baptists, and nobody can get along! Tartan’s not the only recent transplant: the beautiful (and single) Charity (Heather Beers) arrives in Longfellow to spend some time away from her ex-fiancee.

Together Tartan and Charity devise a plan to unite the town by having an All-Faiths Barbecue! Sweet and charming, funny and touching, Baptists At Our Barbecue reminds us that life is a barbecue to which God has invited everyone. Gordon B. Hinckley: A Giant Among Men

This is the first film to dramatize how President Hinckley was prepared by the Lord from his youth. From boyhood lessons , to tender moments with mother in their library, to overcoming rejection in the mission field, you will feel the warmth that endeared him to so many later in life. In the railroad yard, behind the typewriter, and hand-in-hand with Marjorie, the love of his life, Gordon B. Hinckley grew to become a giant among men.

This is one of our family’s favorite Latter-day Saint movies. My kids watch this about once a month and it never gets old. Gordon B. Hinckley: A Giant Among Men is available for purchase on Amazon.
