This is a guest post from Suzy Arkell who served her mission in Italy.
I’ve been out on my mission in Italy for a little over a year now and I remember being a little girl and being so excited to be a missionary. All missionaries were perfect in my eyes and I couldn’t wait to be a missionary and become perfect like them!
After a few weeks in the Missionary Training Center I couldn’t figure out why I still wasn’t perfect. I still had the same struggles I had before being set apart as a full-time missionary. I thought that once I put that name tag on, I would flip a switch into a perfect servant of the Lord, but it didn’t work like that. I had to work at it.
Slowly I came to realize that everybody in this world is imperfect. We’re all struggling. Heck, even the prophet has his struggles! But I’ve learned that through Jesus Christ and His atonement it is possible to progress daily.
Although we have trials and struggles, we can overcome them with His divine help. I know that we can return to live with God if we repent and have faith, are baptized, receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and be the best we can be for the rest of our lives.
Our Father in Heaven cares and loves us so much that He gives us all the chances in the world. We can always come back to Him. And that’s amazing to me.
I just want to let y’all know that I know The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints IS Jesus Christ’s true church on the Earth and if you ever have any questions about my church or if you just need a friend, I’m here.
So here’s a medley of my favorite missionary songs that I grew up singing! But keep in mind…it’s not perfect! 😬
