Gordon B. Hinckley has been gone for well over 10 years, yet for many members of the church there is still a hole in their hearts. Personally, when I read his words I can still hear his voice in my mind.
We loved President Hinckley for many reasons. He was direct with us and told us what needed to be done. He had an amazing sense of humor. He was a lover of literature. But perhaps above all, we loved him for his optimism.
These 20 quotes contain much of that optimism, as well as the wisdom needed to find joy and success in this life. God be thanked for the prophet Gordon B. Hinckley.
Please don’t nag yourselves with thoughts of failure. Simply do what you can do, in the best way you know how, and the Lord will accept your effort.
Get on your knees and pray, then get on your feet and work.
That which comes easily departs easily. That which comes of struggle remains.
There is no substitute for personal integrity. It includes honor. It includes performance. It includes keeping one’s word. It includes doing what is right regardless of the circumstances.
“Forget yourself and go to work.”
“In all of living, have much fun and laughter. Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured.”
“It isn’t as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don’t worry. I say that to myself every morning.”
“You are people with a present and with a future. Don’t muff the ball. Be excellent.”
“Stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight.”
“You can be smart and happy or stupid and miserable…it’s your choice.”
