Gordon B. Hinckley has been gone for over 15 years, yet for many members of the church there is still a hole in their hearts. Personally, when I read his words I can still hear his voice in my mind.
We loved President Hinckley for many reasons. He was direct with us and told us what needed to be done. He had an amazing sense of humor. He was a lover of literature. But perhaps above all, we loved him for his optimism.
These 20 Gordon B. Hinckley quotes contain much of that optimism, as well as the wisdom needed to find joy and success in this life. God be thanked for the prophet Gordon B. Hinckley.
Please don’t nag yourselves with thoughts of failure. Simply do what you can do, in the best way you know how, and the Lord will accept your effort.
Get on your knees and pray, then get on your feet and work.
That which comes easily departs easily. That which comes of struggle remains.
There is no substitute for personal integrity. It includes honor. It includes performance. It includes keeping one’s word. It includes doing what is right regardless of the circumstances.

This was actually a statement of Jenkin Lloyd Jones that President Hinckley quoted in a talk he gave in 1997.
“Forget yourself and go to work.”
“In all of living, have much fun and laughter. Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured.”
“It isn’t as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don’t worry. I say that to myself every morning.”
“You are people with a present and with a future. Don’t muff the ball. Be excellent.”
“Stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight.”
“You can be smart and happy or stupid and miserable…it’s your choice.”

I was baptized ln 2007... Seems like yesterday.... HAVE BEEN THROUGH SOME GUT RENCHING EXPERIENCE. I WAS ALWSYS OFFENDED BY THE EXPRESSION.....WHAT DOEST KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER....IT TOOK YEARS TO TRULY UNDERSTAND THIS REMARK. I LOVE THE CHURCH OF Jesus Christ of latter-day Saint's. I love Heavenly Father And Jesus Christ. I am a better person since I take my faith seriously. I really think about what people say. Stand tall and firm in Holy places in the name of Jesus Christ Amen

You have incorrectly noted that President Hinckley stated: "time running around shouting that he has been robbed. The fact is that most putts don’t drop, most beef is tough, most children grow up to be just like people, most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration, and most jobs are more often dull than otherwise. Life is just like an old time rail journey ... delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride." This was actually a statement of Jenkin Lloyd Jones that President Hinckley quoted in a talk he gave in 1997, see https://www.lds.org/ensign/1997/03/a-conversation-with-single-adults?lang=eng. Please either update this or remove it so as not to perpetuate the lie that President Hinckley was a plagiarist. Thank you.
