What is Revelation?
Revelation is one of the foundational principles of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and it was one of the topics covered in a #LDSface2face event with Elder Bednar and his wife.
This video clip comes from a discussion with Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and his wife, Susan. Youth around the world asked Elder and Sister Bednar questions before and during the #LDSface2face event.
Elder Bednar was asked to answer questions regarding revelation – how we can receive it, and how to know whether the promptings come from God or from one’s own thoughts. His answer? “We overcomplicate and overanalyze this.”
One of the questions that came in was, “Can you teach me how to recognize the Holy Ghost when he speaks to me?”
If you have a thought to do something good, it’s prompted by the Holy Ghost.

Scott, Martha didn't have a good thought when she was doing those good deeds around the house when the Savior was there. Just the opposite, she resented Mary sitting at the Savior's feet listening. Elder Bednar said every good thought that impels us to do good comes from the Holy Ghost. He was speaking of revelation, not every action. We certainly can and should do good deeds by our own choosing, but with a pure heart that can feel the guidance of the Holy Ghost.

Elder Bednar, with all due respect sir, just because tbe deed is good doesn't mean it was prompted by the Holy Ghost, many times we do goid things with a wrong heart, Martha for example was doing what she thought was good when Jesus cane to visit, but it wasn't the will of God and therefore it couldn't have come from the Holy Ghost. We know its the voice of the Holy Spirit when what we hear fits the character of the Father which we learn through His Instructions. Blessings
