Jeffrey R. Holland Pronounces Modern Day “Standard of Truth” Akin to Joseph Smith

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland is a man known for using the power of language to motivate and inspire. One of the most beautiful messages of hope that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints could wish for was given by him on a May 27, 2015 Facebook post.

The application for our day and the comfort the words of a living prophet bring our one of the great blessings of having “prophets in the land.” Even amidst the chaos and confusion, we can have peace and heavenly guidance. Elder Holland said:

“What a terrific time to be alive!

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the most certain, the most secure, the most reliable, and the most rewarding truth on earth and in heaven, in time and in eternity. Nothing—not anything, not anyone, not any influence—will keep this Church from fulfilling its mission and realizing its destiny declared from before the foundation of the world.

Ours is that fail-safe, inexorable, indestructible dispensation of the fulness of the gospel. There is no need to be afraid or tentative about the future.

Unlike every other era before us, this dispensation will not experience an institutional apostasy; it will not see a loss of priesthood keys; it will not suffer a cessation of revelation from the voice of Almighty God. Individuals will apostatize or turn a deaf ear to heaven, but never again will the dispensation collectively do so.

What a secure thought! What a day in which to live!

If there are some bumps along the way while waiting to see every promise kept and every prophecy fulfilled, so be it. If you haven’t noticed, I am bullish about the latter days.

In nothing could I have more faith than I have in God the Eternal Father, in Jesus Christ His Son, in Their redeeming gospel, and in their divinely-guided Church. Believe. Rise up. Be faithful. And make the most of the remarkable day in which we live!”

If there are some bumps along the way while waiting to see every promise kept and every prophecy fulfilled, so be it.

If these words from Elder Holland don’t light a fire in your heart and soul, not much will! What is your favorite quote from the apostles and prophets?

Elder Holland is so right. It is a wonderful time to be alive and to a member of the Church. I am so very thankful I live in the "mission field" (though it is shrinking!). I am required to stand as an example for truth, live the Gospel, declare my testimony in a loving and gentle manner every day of my life. As a Latter-day Saint, I am in the minority but it has only strengthened me. How grateful I am not to take the Gospel for granted. Prophets are people with divine callings ... as were Peter and Paul who disagreed about the Law of Moses, as was Moses who had to stay out of the Promised Land because of an act of pride, as was the Prophet Joseph who had to learn many lessons as he struggled to grow into the calling. Perfection! Nope, not in this life ...only in the life to come.
